80's songs for Spring/Summer road trips

I know this is early but am so exited for warm weather and it's right around the corner! Why not post my Summer/Spring road trip must haves?

#1 "I'm Afraid Of Me" by Culture Club

This song has such a tropical vibe to it! It just screams SUMMER!!!

#2 "Kokomo" by The Beach Boys

Who can have an 80's summer playlist without Kokomo? What are you crazy? lol!

#3 "Video" by Jeff Lynne

This is from an awesome movie called Electric Dreams!

#4 "Now You're Mine" by Helen Terry

Yes, this is from the Electric Dreams soundtrack too. Helen Terry is the wonderful former Culture Club backing vocalist behind "Church Of The Poison Mind" and many other songs.

#5 "Second Nature" by Dan Hartman

This is a feel good song for an awesome road trip. Dan Hartman was the writer behind "Living In America" by James Brown and is known for his hit "I Can Dream About You" be sure to listen to those as well.

#6 "I'm You're Man" by Wham!

of coarse I am going to throw in a Wham jam! I am not going to just keep you hanging like a yo-yo! Pun intended!

#7 Bitter Heart by Seona Dancing

I always listen to this while i'm on a trip! This is Ricky Gervias in the early eighties singing lead! He is a great New Wave artist and he created my favorite tv show "The Office" he is one talented man!

#8 Modern Love by David Bowie

Gotta have David on here! This is a very fun song that is a summer essential!

#9 "Love Plus One" by Haircut 100

This a perfect song to just listen to and think of summer!

#10 "Locomotion" by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD)

I love this song! Perfect mixture of New Wave and Calypso!

Things teenage New Wavers will understand

I am 14 going on 15 and I listen to a ton of music from the 70's and 80's. I decided to make a fun post about my experiences and stuff you might understand if you are a retro teen or adult. I am not complaining about anything. I Just want to write a fun post and tell a few funny stories.

When I went to the orthodontist to get my braces tightened, My friend that works there asked me what I got for christmas. I told her I got an ipod. She asked me what song I have on so far. I brought it with me because I keep everything in my fanny pack so I showed her my song list. She then said "you listen to music from the orchestra?" I told her I didn't have music from an orchestra. I was trying to figure out what she was referring to. Then it finaly came to me. She was looking at my Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark tracks. It just cut off the rest of their name so it just said orchestra on it. I then explained everything but I don't think she knew who they were. She probably even thought my Culture Club tracks were traditional music from from many cultures. :)

My friends listen to a lot of modern rap music and they are suprized that I don't know what song they are listening to. I do hear the modern music that plays on the radio when my dad is taking me somewhere but thats just about it. My friends always listen to a lot of the exotic hip hop like Kanye West and that Whip and Nay Nay song and they always tell me "you got to know this one" and I never do. They do know some songs on my playlist like "Take On Me" by A-ha, "Axel F" by Harold Faltermeyer because of the crazy frog version, and Dan Hartman's "I Can Dream About You" because of the Penguins Of Madagascar movie. Awesome movie by the way. :D

The song "Neutron Dance" by The Pointer Sisters was playing at the gym yesterday while I was waiting in line at the vending machine to buy a candy bar. I was kinda singing along and the people in front of me were staring at me. That wasn't the first time I got stared at funny. I was running around the track and my headphones got unplugged so "Hungry Like The Wolf was blasting everywhere and there was this guy that looked at me funny. Lol

Embrace your inner Valley Girl or Mystery Boy. It is totally rad!
